Year One After Effects Finale

Today was the Final After Effects workshop by which we were required to create an artwork of an object or creature that lives in the sky. The final outcome would be a collaborative film project that would be a combination of all my groups' work. We were allowed to use sound effects, vector and photoshop artwork, and any techniques that are appropriate to bring my animation to life.
I started by looking at the type of art I wanted to create. After looking at work by Hungry Sandwich Club and Hey Studio, It was important to me to create a fun, playful and imaginative artwork in order to animate it to fit the chosen theme of a creature or object in the sky. Both design studios share the ethos of creating eye-catching work that can stand alone as illustration or be part of a brand identity.

Being inspired by Hungry Sandwich Club and Hey Studio, I chose to use Illustrator as a main design software. The idea was to create an Aeroplane that would fly in and zoom inside to give the audience an insight of the interior. I also thought it would be fun to have a character, and to humanise him with an action that is familiar to us all - taking a picture. The flash and sound noise I believed would only add to the fun and funky nature of the design.

I then added all these clips into a new project on AfterEffects. I first of all inputted the Plane - swooping in from left to right for the first 4 seconds. I then added a zoom, using the anchor point, and zoomed into the interior to present this for the last 6 seconds. After scrolling the camera angle around the set for a second or so, a zoom is placed again on the figure and his mobile phone. Then a short flash appears as if the figure has just taken a photo - a sound clip accompanies this. The camera then zooms out of the window finishing the video with the original colour scheme it started with.

Overall I am very pleased with the outcome of this project and I feel the whole fun nature and creative concept works really well. The colours, which are all pastel and very funky, make the animation come alive. I really enjoyed this workshop and I believe that I have improved vastly throughout the year when it comes to using the motion graphic software. After never using it before I also believe that I have come a long way in learning and developing techniques and designs.

We then combined the classes work to create a finale outcome. Here is the video:
