Wilson's Republic Conference: Eve Warren
Eve Warren is a brand and packaging designer based in Leeds. Known for her colourful and expressive work, Eve offers design and art direction services to a wide range of aspiring clients. Since graduating from Leeds College of Art in 2014, Eve has worked for some of the UK’s top agencies that include Fieldwork, Koto, and Robot Food. Clients include Europe’s first dedicated arts and wellbeing island Obonjan, gourmet marshmallow pioneer The Marshmallowist and vegan beauty brand Hanami. Eve, being a designer from Leeds, and talking on the subject of roots, made me very interested in her talk.
Eve started talking about her influences, her design background and the idea of being of a creative. As part of the roots theme, Eve discussed her what makes her an original today. Eve talked about how she was influenced by gothic influences as a child, always watching programmes such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Donny Darko. She was still encouraged to be a creative coming from a family of designers. Graduating from Leeds College of Art, she now works for Robot Food in Leeds as a designer.
She talked about the importance of Roots and the idea of always being influenced by where you come from. Eve also linked Roots to art around cities and how these are just regurgitated ideas and themes from the objects and subjects around designers. She gave examples; we looked at The Hungry Sandwich club work in the Leeds Train Station and Art that has rejuvenated Leeds Dock. Eve talked about the power of play and how Art can bring people together and allow for a sense of relaxation.
This idea of being inspired by our surroundings resonated with me. Being from Leeds and being always influenced by our surroundings I started thinking about different projects I have created to do with roots; such as my last project based around fashion in the city of Leeds and how culture affects what we wear for example.
Now, Eve works for Robot Food, working as the middleman between designer and client.
